The Talking Book Center owns a collection of descriptive videos, or movies with an added audio narration which make them viewable by the blind and visually-impaired. In addition to showing two descriptive movies per month on the big screen at the Athens-Clarke County Library, we also loan our movies to our patrons. All videos are in VHS format and have a loan period of two weeks.
In May, the Media Access Group ceased production of descriptive videos for purchase. This means we are no longer able to purchase new descriptive videos, or replace those that have been lost or damaged. For this reason, we ask you take extra care when borrowing descriptive videos.
However, exciting developments are being made for movie-goers with special needs. Some theaters are installing assistive technology devices such as Rear Window closed captioning and audio descriptions available by headphone. Here is a list of theaters in Georgia that offer these accommodations:
