ONLINE REGISTRATION FOR THE RURAL AND HUMAN SERVICES COORDINATED TRANSPORTATION WORKSHOP ON AUGUST 23, 2010 IN MACON NOW AVAILABLE
"Rural and Human Services Transportation Coordination" legislation in Georgia passed at the 2010 session of the General Assembly. As in a number of states, it is now required that agencies work together to deliver transportation in a coordinated, efficient manner to all Georgians. As a positive first step towards coordination, The Governor's Office of Highway Safety (through the Strategic Highway Safety Plan and the Older Driver Task Force), the Department of Community Health (through the Georgia Council of Aging), and the Department of Human Services (through the Division of Aging Services) are sponsoring a one-day Rural and Human Services Coordinated Transportation Workshop on Monday, August 23, 2010 at The Methodist Home for Children and Youth in Macon, Georgia. Details and registration can be found here or in the links below.
Below is the Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) weblink for you to register for the upcoming Workshop on the above subject.
Please post this to your organization's website or use other means to get the word out to your membership to register and to review the Agenda for the August 23 Workshop on Rural and Human Services Coordinated Transportation in Georgia!

Senior Citizens Plug In
The New York Times recently had an article about the way senior citizens can use the internet to stay in touch, even when getting out of the house can be difficult.
One senior center in Queens, NY, hosts a virtual chat where seniors can log in from home and video chat with others. Some doctors and social workers offer Skype sessions. Other sites allow you to input blood pressure or blood sugar readings and send them to your doctor, or order groceries online for delivery.
Technology has made it much easier for people to stay in touch. To read the article, please visit the NYT New Old Age Blog.
